Gemma Bruce
Senior Orthopaedic Nurse

Gemma began working at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2002 as an Animal Care Assistant. After several years she became interested in progressing her career and enrolled as a Trainee Veterinary Nurse at Telford College while continuing to work at the R(D)SVS.

Gemma qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2010 and worked as part of the Surgery Service nursing team for several years. During this time, she realised her passion lay with orthopaedic nursing and in 2015, she took on the role of Orthopaedic Service Nurse, focussing on the care of orthopaedic in-patients, and providing support for the day-to-day running and development of the service.

In June 2020, Gemma was awarded Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), in recognition of her role in teaching and learning support in Higher Education.

Gemma joined Veterinary Specialists Scotland in August 2020 as Senior Orthopaedic Nurse. She brings over 18 years’ experience of working in a busy referral and teaching hospital as well as a wealth of knowledge in running an Orthopaedic service, and she is excited to be involved with setting-up this Service within our new hospital. Gemma’s aim is also to help in providing outstanding levels of veterinary care and support for other areas within the hospital.
